"Great new baby (and family) photo shoot with Emily. The session was relaxed and Emily really knows her stuff and put us at ease." - David
When is the best time to have a Newborn Photography Session?
Newborns are best captured between 4-10 days old, when they are still curly and sleepy.
After this time we can of course still capture lovely photos of your baby, but they are far more likely to be alert, looking around and stretching more.
How do I book a Newborn Photography Session with you?
First you need to get in touch and let me know when your estimated due date (EDD) is so I can check my availability - you can do this by email or phone.
We will then have a free, no obligation, phone consultation where we can discuss your session hopes and requirements.
If after the consultation you decide you would like to book me I request a £50 non refundable deposit to secure your booking. At this stage we will pencil in your EDD, after that I will need you to let me know when your little one has actually arrived, as soon as reasonably practical after the birth, so that we can book in a time and date for photos.
When should I book my Newborn Session?
Whenever you're ready!
It's a good idea to book in advance to avoid disappointment, but if I'm free when you contact me, you can book me!
Where will the photography session take place?
That depends which package you decide to book.
I have a lovely cozy home studio set up at my home in Burpham near Guildford, with changing & feeding facilities for your baby, and comfy sofas & refreshments for you.
Alternatively, I can come to you, but please be aware that we may need to move some furniture (which I will help with), and I will obviously need time to set up and pack away my equipment at the start and end of the session. The space you have in your home will affect what backdrops I can bring along, but this is something we'll discuss in more detail during your pre-session consultation.
I booked you for a studio session, but I had a rough delivery and would really much prefer you came to my home instead, is that OK?
A Mini New Born Session is only suitable in my Guildford studio, however, I've had two babies; I had a perfect birth plan and when it came to crunch, it all went rather pear shaped and I ended up having to stay in hospital for longer than I'd hoped. If you change your mind about where to have your photography session for any reason, just let me know as soon as possible and I'll try to accommodate your request.
(Please be aware there may be an additional charge for a home visit if you have not booked a Full New Born Session)
Can I cancel my Newborn Photography Session with you?
Yes, you may cancel your session at any time, but you will lose your £50 booking deposit.
How do we prepare for our session with you?
When you book your session I will send you a confirmation letter via email which will have all the info you need about what to bring, what to wear, how to prepare and where to come etc...
I only want photos of baby and not me, can you do that?
I fully understand that having your photo taken so soon after birth is quite possibly the last thing you want to do. You've had no sleep, your body has gone through a traumatic time, you have leaky boobs, saggy skin and you cry at anything. These are all normal things after having a baby!
I like to think I am sensitive to the above concerns, and experienced in posing you in only the most flattering of ways. I won't ever make you do anything you don't want to, but I will encourage you to have a few with your baby, even if it's just your hands, or bare shoulder - your baby is only this little once.
When will we receive our photos?
I usually send a few preview photos soon after your session, and you will receive your full set of digital images within 3 weeks of your session appointment.
We want to use some of the photos for birth announcement cards, can we have them earlier?
I will happily send you files to use for announcement cards before I deliver your full set of images.
When do we have to pay you?
I request a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure your photo session. Full payment is required on the day of the session, however you are welcome to pay the balance prior to the session day if it is more convenient for you.
Are you insured?
Yes! I will happily provide you copies of insurance certificates should you wish to see them.
What if my baby cries the whole time?
Sessions are entirely baby led. The aim is for baby to be in a cozy sleep for much of the session, but he/she may have a bit of a grizzle at times - and that's totally OK - we will adapt to baby's needs and still get lovely photos for you!
Can we bring siblings?
Yes! this is something we can discuss as part of your consultation.
