From Forensics to Freelance - I've covered births, deaths and marriages!
I’m Emily, and I’m a photographer through and through.
I spent 7 years working at Kodak and 14 years working in forensic photography.
I’m now a married mum of two and work as a freelance photographer specialising in Wedding, Portrait and New Born photography across Surrey and the South East.
Every one of the skills I learnt as an experienced Forensic Photographer makes me a better photographer. I walk away from my forensic career highly skilled in a variety of photographic techniques, covering both capture and post production.
For me, the only difference between freelance and forensics (aside from the obvious!) is the ability to be creative. I’m an 'arty-farty' soul and because photography is second nature to me, I have the freedom to let my imagination run wild; providing creative bespoke imagery tailored to each of my clients.
Don't let my forensic background put you off. Although I've spent my fair share of time photographing the dead, I'm very good at getting on with the living! I'm relaxed, friendly and down to earth, with a very good sense of humour. I love meeting couples planning their wedding, and families welcoming their new additions!
I'm lucky enough to have done some adventurous and exciting things before having our two kids (like snowboarding, wing walking and climbing Mnt. Kilimanjaro), but these days you can find me tucked up on the sofa with a glass of wine watching Silent Witness, telling my gorgeous husband why it's not realistic (the poor thing)!
Being a photographer isn't just a job - it's what I am!
I’m always eyeing up a shot.
Whether it’s using my iPhone or my dslr, I just can’t switch my photography side off!
Have a look at my personal Instagram (@Emilykp_12) gallery to see what I’ve been up to.
